Area Rug Pads

What are rug pads for?

Have you ever stepped on an area rug and had it bunch up or slide around under your feet? If so, then the rug in question could benefit from the use of a simple rug pad. Rug pads keep you, your family & your guests safe from tripping & falling over a lose rug. Laid between an area rug and the floor beneath, rug pads grip both the rug and the floor to prevent the former from slipping and potentially causing you to lose balance. This stability also protects your floors, reducing friction and wear.

In short, rug pads help keep your rugs safe and looking great by holding them in place, while also keeping your floors safe & clean by creating space and padding beneath your rug. The thicker the cushion on your rug pad, the more comfort and protection you’ll gain.

Types of rug pads

Rug pads have different uses depending on the material from which they’re made. General rug pads are made from a slip-resistant webbed material and largely serve to prevent your rug from sliding out from underneath you when you step on it. You can order a roll and cut it to size or order a pre-cut pad in the specific size you need. Premium felt or polyester-blend pads are coated to help them stick to the floor, offering extra protection against movement. They also help to prevent scratches under the rug and are best for adding comfortable padding.

Both types of rug pads can be used in conjunction, but you should definitely have at least one under every rug in your home. Shop our huge collection of rug pads to find the right one for you!
